The process of improving User Experience can be quite rigorous. A study can involve many different activities each contributing to the successful implementation of a more appealing and effective web site. Our project with you may include some or all of the following phases.

Analysis and Review

If you want to improve the usability of your website the very first thing you must do is determine how well it is performing at present. We start by examining how the site measures up against established Usability best practices. From there we provide recommendations for improving the site to create a more compelling and engaging User Experience.

Information Architecture

The effective usability of a site is highly dependent upon the information structure on which it is based. The development of a well conceived Site Map lays out the hierarchy of pages/information elements and their relationship to one another. From this an easy to understand navigation system can be built.

User Experience Design

Once an assessment of the current effectiveness of the site (or proposed site) is complete the process of designing/redesigning the site can begin. Depending on the client requirements the design elements may include simple page layout diagrams or more sophisticated interactive prototypes which demonstrate some of the activities which can be performed on the site. The information architecture/site maps and process workflows are an important component of this step.

Documentation

Documentation is a very important component of building and maintaining a customer-centric web site with optimal usability. Documents may have been created in other processes during the usability study or prepared ahead of time (e.g. function requirements, business needs analysis). Well written post review documents provided to the development staff will help to ensure a strong understanding of the design criteria established as a result of the User Experience/Usability design process.
